Eight CSDC Supported High Schools Rank Among Nation’s Best Charter High Schools

(May 22, 2018, Columbia, MD) Eight Charter Schools Development Corporation (CSDC) charter schools made U.S. News and World Report’s 2018 list of America’s Best Public High Schools. Five of those eight fell within the top 2% nationwide rankings, earning a Gold rating for educating their students to the highest level of college readiness.

U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings are “based on these key principles: that a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college bound, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes” of that educational success.  Click here for more information about the methodology used in the Best High Schools rankings.

CSDC has worked with these charter high schools to help them efficiently and effectively finance, build and expand their school facilities, always with the ultimate goal of improving student achievement.  CSDC’s programs include direct loans, credit enhancements and turnkey development services, and focus on serving new schools, schools educating predominately low income students, and schools that create new educational options in communities with poorly performing traditional schools.

For example, CSDC’s Building Block Fund provided a lease guaranty that enabled Meridian School to commence operations in 2011 in Round Rock, TX serving 650 students in grades K-8. As a result of the guaranty, the school’s landlord invested over $1.5 million in tenant improvements to convert a former, vacant office building into an educational facility. By the 2016-17 school year, Meridian was serving 1,249 students in K-12 and is projected to eventually enroll up to 1,550 students. In 2018, not only was Meridian ranked 6th nationally, it was the top performing high school in the state. Without organizations like CSDC being willing to work with de novo charter schools in their first few years of operations, high performing and high impact schools like Meridian might not exist.

CSDC congratulates each and every one of our portfolio charter schools for setting the bar high for others to follow.
