(May 30, 2018, Columbia, MD) Charter Schools Development Corporation (CSDC) is excited to announce the accomplishments of a young scholar at the George and Veronica Phalen Leadership Academy. Samiah Turner, 8, recently published a book entitled “My Life as an 8-Year Old Engineer,” inspired by her involvement with the school’s STEMnasium curriculum, focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Phalen Leadership Academies (PLA), a nonprofit charter school network based out of Indiana, opened its first charter school, the George and Veronica Leadership Academy, in August, 2013 with the help of CSDC’s Turnkey Development Program. Over the past five years, CSDC and PLA have forged a close relationship focused on developing a long-term strategy for securing adequate, affordable facilities for its network schools in areas of severe need.
It is PLA’s mission and vision that all children have equal access to well-rounded, high-quality learning experiences in order to help them achieve mastery in core subjects, stimulate their dreams and aspirations for the future, and help them develop as scholars, citizens, and leaders. The effectiveness of its program is evident through the accomplishments of Samiah Turner. For more information on PLA and its network schools, click here.
