Project Profile: Initial build-out of a shell industrial
space into an elementary school offering a Core Knowledge
curriculum with emphasis on the principles of America's founding
fathers. A three-phased project that included new construction of a
full gymnasium and classroom space to accommodate up to 800
students in preschool through eighth grade
completed in August 2012 for a Total Project Cost of
$10,725,000.
The Adams Traditional Academy Board of Directors turned to CSDC
to transform a vacant industrial space into a child-friendly
facility that supports the K-8 school's 'Performing Plus'
educational philosophy.
CSDC worked with this group of self-described "idealistic
parents and administrators" to realize their vision for an
educational space in which the "thinkers, problem solvers, and
leaders of the future" could learn the basics of reading, math,
science and history, as well as Latin and the fine arts. Despite a
late start, construction of the elementary school (Phase I) was
completed on time for the beginning of the 2010 school year.
CSDC completed a 21,000 square foot Phase II expansion for fall
2011 on time and on budget that enabled Adams to serve 540 students
for the 2011-12 school year. CSDC recently completed the Phase III
expansion of the campus that entailed the construction of a new
30,710 square foot, two-story building adjacent to, and similar in
size and design to, their current elementary school facility.
This phase resulted in additional classroom and ancillary
spaces including a multi-purpose room, music room, kitchen, and
administrative offices. The completion of Phase III has
enabled the school to start a preschool, expand their full day
kindergarten classes, and expand the enrollment in the lower grade
levels.
Thanks to a focus on detail in form and function by the
architect and interior design team, more than 500 students and
faculty are now settled into bright, friendly and spacious
classrooms, in a "facility that matches our educational
philosophy," said
Sharon Malone, school Principal and Board Member. Click here to

"Charter School Development was critical in the acquisition
and development of our new facility. Without their expertise
and financing, we would not have been able to acquire a facility
for our growing student population. Their professionalism and
responsiveness to our specific needs created a positive working
relationship throughout the whole process."
